Women's 20km results .pdf

Eliška Martínková started the race (on Saturday, August 20, 2022) for 20 kilometers with twenty-three other competitors. Coach Kateřina Čermáková's protégé kept up with the best in the first half of the course, when she was still in contact at the ninth kilometer. She soon started to lose it and passed the top ten as eleventh in a time of 45:24. At that moment, she was losing twenty-two seconds to the leading Spaniard, Maria Peréz, who was defending her title from Berlin. However, Peréz immediately had to go to the penalty area, where she spent two minutes.

Meanwhile, a five-member leading group formed at the front, and Eliška moved alone in tenth position. In the final kilometers, she managed to move a little higher and finally crossed the finish line in an excellent seventh place in the second best career time of 1:31:44. The Golden Pedestrian Double was completed by the Greek Antigoni Ntrismpioti, who after thirty-five did not find a conqueror even at the shorter championship distance and won in a new personal record of 1:29:03. The owner of the same precious metal from the World Cup in Eugene, Polka Katarzyna Zdzieblo, won the silver in 1:29:20. To the delight of the home supporters, German Saskia Feige won the bronze (1:29:25).

In the men's top 1, a group of eight favorites was in the lead halfway through the race. The Spaniards were very active, as well as the Swede Perseus Karlström, who managed to tear the leading group apart. Subsequently, a small crisis came upon him, which the pedestrians from the Iberian Peninsula took advantage of. Defending champion Álvaro Martín did the best of them, repeating his golden success from Berlin after four years in a new personal best of 19:11:1. Karlström caught a second wind and eventually took the silver in 19:23:1. Another representative of the Spanish pedestrian school, Diego García Carrera, finished bronze (19:46:XNUMX).
